"We're just tired with the look of the traditional brick and mortar sound stages," said Emily Nordstrom, production manager for B. Anderson Productions. "This studio can be built anywhere, you don't have to clean it and there's no unnecessary bills for things like running water." The idea of the portable studio sprang from writer, producer, director, actor, soundman Billy Anderson's background in retail. "Department stores keep their overhead low by not having stockrooms, " said Anderson. "Why should we have a building?" |
"We used to rent a whole building and then a grip truck and a generator," Anderson said. "We not only cut our expenses by a third, we're finally getting some bang for our buck by using everything in the grip truck." Grips had nothing but praise for this unique facility. "It comes down really quick, especially in the rain," said 35 year old industry veteran Dan McClintock. "I'm just happy to have a job that gets me off the farm for a day." Dan drives his lawn tractor to the set each day and is always ready with a joke for any new production. "What's the heaviest thing a grip has to carry?" Asks Dan. "The Art Department!" |
